Anything and everything will be posted here. Mostly concepts for stories or animations I have...probably.
Can someone from the sciencey side of tumblr please explain this ?
This is called shape memory. It’s made from an alloy of titanium and nickel (I believe it’s called nitinol). It has the ability to “remember” the shape it’s taken.
When cold you can bend it whatever which way, but once you heat it (or in this case put it in what I presume is hot water) it will take the original shape.
WHAT!!?!?!?!?

I always felt that photos did poor justice to the breathtaking dimensionality of skulls, so lets try something different. (Making animated gifs is something I’m kinda new at, so bear with me here.)
This is a Gaboon Viper skull.
Gaboons are a large (highly-venmous) African viper species, that holds the unique distinction of having the longest fangs in the world, with the ability to inject more venom than any other snake. There’s usually two (or more) fangs on each side.
In the photo below, you can see a groove at the base of the foremost fangs, through which the venom duct enters the hollow fang.
Epidote, Ca2Al2(Fe3+;Al)(SiO4)(Si2O7)O(OH).
The anisotropy, or directional asymmetry, of epidote causes the stone to appear different colors from different directions. The crystal structure bends light differently depending on the path, appearing to you as a color change.
This picture shows a bluish-green for the crystals on the left, and a more yellow-green on the right.
